Your council tax helps to pay for many of our city’s vital services, and is calculated by the type of property you live in, how many people live there, their individual circumstances, and the property value.
Unpaid carers may be entitled to a discount if they are living with, and caring for, someone else. Likewise, anyone living in a care home, hospital may be entitled to council tax discount or may even be exempt from paying council tax altogether.
You will need to contact the council and tell them about your circumstances if you would like to find out whether you qualify for a discount. For independent advice about your council tax, you can contact the Citizens Advice Bureau or other free resources on the subject.
