Benefits for carers

Can't find what you're looking for?

The benefits system is complex and difficult to understand. It’s very important that you get the proper advice. If you act as a carer for a disabled person for at least 35 hours per week you may be able to claim Carers Allowance. Carers may qualify for this if the person being cared for already receives Attendance Allowance, Constant Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

The Carers Allowance is paid to the carer, not the person being cared for, and is intended to financially assist the carer when they are earning below a certain amount.
