Heart disease
Can't find what you're looking for?
The heart is a muscle. As we get older it has to work harder to do its job and it is more vulnerable to disease. Angina and heart attacks are both caused by heart disease. You can get advice and support on how you can prevent heart disease, as well as what to do if you have heart disease. It is very important to talk with your GP if you feel pains in the chest that worry you.
People who come from, or whose families originally come from South Asia (particularly Bangladesh, India and Pakistan) have a higher risk of getting heart disease than other people.
Everyone can do things which make heart disease less likely, including having a healthy diet, exercise, and not smoking.
