Easier benefit claims, but less back-dating

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). has announced that it will soon be easier for older people to get Housing and Council Tax Benefits that are due to them. From October 2008 The Pension Service will deal with the entire application over the phone when people claim Pension Credit - and then send on the claim information to the local authority responsible for paying their Housing and Council Tax Benefits.

Electronic tagging for people with dementia?

Should people with Alzheimer's Disease be electronically tagged? Would it help people keep safe while retaining their freedom, or would it lead to humiliation and a feeling of being controlled? These are some of the questions being asked as the Alzheimer's Society launch a new policy.
Eligibility criteria and Fair Access to Care
Fair Access to Care is a system developed by the government to help decide who should receive care from adult social care departments. All social care departments in England have to use the same Fair Access to Care ‘eligibility criteria’ to decide whether someone should get help with care from the local council.
