Being part of a social group can be a good way to get out and meet new people, there are lots of different social groups you can join, such as lunch clubs, community centres, educational courses, arts groups or sports groups.
To find a group that interests you you could start by looking at the Leeds’ Local Groups Database and the Leeds Neighbourhood Network Schemes. There are also often details of local groups in places like your local Post Office window.
Social networking sites can help you to stay in touch with people no matter where they are and without you needing to go out. Saga run Saga Zone, which is an online community for the over 50s, you could also look at Age Concern’s Baby Boomer Bistro.
Be careful about publishing too many personal details if they can identify you to people other than your friends.
