You need not feel alone just because you live alone. If you would like to meet new people, there are many befriending schemes in Leeds which attract volunteers who are keen to spend their spare time with older people socially.
These volunteers can visit you in your home or speak to you on the phone on a regular basis. They may come from many walks of life, but all come through official befriending schemes. If you are interested but concerned about security, each of the schemes will be happy to discuss their screening process with you.
If you have any spare time you may like to do some voluntary work yourself, and brighten someone’s day. There are befriending schemes all over Leeds which aim to introduce volunteers to older people who would appreciate someone to chat to. This can be either face-to-face or over the phone, and for as little or as much time as you can manage.
