Blue badges and parking for disabled people
Can't find what you're looking for?
For blind people or disabled people with severe walking difficulties who travel either as drivers or passengers to allow you to park closer to your destination. The blue badge scheme may help you to carry on driving.
If you are under 65 and get the high rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), a War Pensioners Mobility Supplement, or are registered blind you will get the badge automatically. Other people under 65 and anyone over 65 who has a permanent and substantial disability can apply for a badge.
Don’t forget the Blue Badge is not a licence to park anywhere. You can usually park free of charge and without time limit at on-street parking (metered or ’pay and display’). The same parking time limits don’t always apply to Blue Badge holders so always check local signs for information.
Badge holders may also usually park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours in England.
